The laminar flow cabinet, located in the "Lead Lab" (Room 165), provides a relatively dust-free workbench to work on small, dust-sensitive parts and assemblies. It works by creating a laminar flow of HEPA-filtered air moving from the filters at the top towards the user. Therefore it is not a fume hood! Accordingly, do not perform work that requires ventilation away from the user in the laminar flow cabinet!
The switches for the fans and lights are located in the upper right corner of the front side. Next to the switches you will find a flow indicator and an adjustment knob for the flow rate. Please leave the fans running at all times. The flow rate should be set such that the little ball of the indicator is floating at the level of the black mark. Please switch off the lights when you are done working in the area. The plexiglass pane in the front should be kept closed except to briefly allow improved access. If you want to check the air quality, there is a laser particle counter in the back on the right.
Please remember that this is a shared facility - therefore, clean up after yourself immediately! If you need to leave anything in the laminar flow cabinet, please mark the area with tape, indicating your name and the date (so people can find out who to talk to about the space). If you do this, please be mindful of other users and use space efficiently.
Finally, remember that the sole purpose of this device is to provide a dust-free environment. Introducing dusty or dust-producing items is probably not a good idea. And again, please clean up after yourself!
