- The student shop is headed by an instrument maker (David Hyde (206) 543-4080 drhco2@uw.edu) who himself does small machining jobs but more importantly provides safety training and instruction to students, staff, and faculty on the operation of a wide variety of machine tools.
- For a listing of shop capabilities and equipment see:
http://www.npl.washington.edu/capabilities
- The student shop is equipped with a wide variety of nuts, bolts, washers, fittings, and tools. If you notice that the shop is beginning to run low on a particular kind of stock item, please note the item on the clipboard order sheet on the work bench near the high bay so that David Hyde can order more. Please be as specific as possible (e.g. non-magnetic 1/4-20 bolts, 1" long).
- If you need to borrow a tool (such as a wrench or a set of calipers) please be sure to return it promptly to the place where you found it, so that others can use it as well. If you are not sure where it goes, please contact David Hyde. Student shop tools are usually marked with red paint so that they are easy to spot. If you find that you will need a tool for an extended period of time, it is appropriate to buy one for your experiment so that the student shop tool remains available for general use.
