We do not expect you to fight fires yourself. If you are the kind of person who will want to fight a fire in the lab, please take the UW EH&S fire extinguisher training.
If you hear the fire alarm, please exit the building via the nearest safe door or window. If possible, do not cross the boundary between buildings. If you are in the laser cutter area, exit via the two-story office wing. If you are in the student shop, exit via the student shop door. If you do not hear the alarm but you know that evacuation is needed, please spread the alarm by:
- Sending out a general evacuation page using the intercom system (if it is safe, and if the intercom system is working)
- Pulling the alarm box on your way out of the door (again, if it is safe to do so)
Do not assemble in the CENPA courtyard. (It's near the welding station in the student shop, and may be dangerous in a fire.) Instead, assemble on the grass across from the Main Instrument Shop, marked by the blue X in the map below. Stay out of the parking lot so that you won't obstruct responding emergency vehicles (fire trucks, police cars, University Environmental Health and Safety, etc.)
As a group, account for other CENPA personnel. Do you know or suspect that someone is still in the building? Do you know that someone actually went home early, and is definitely not in the building? One of the group should be able to make a report to emergency personnel.
